I expected most of his talk to be peppered by anecdotes from his old days in the army, about being lonely, and having to rely on medication, a failing eyesight, difficult to run errands particularly when he fractured a leg (I had noticed his leg in a cast a few months ago). Often old age is associated with being frail and weak. After my conversation with him I realised that though so me of my assumptions about aged people were true, Mr. X altered my thinking for good. The aged with positive thinking may live up to 7 years longer than their peers who tend to think negatively (Ng et al., 2016). In my perception before my meeting with Mr. X, I had always believed that the aged were frail people, who needed someone to care of them and were largely incapable of living alone in the community. The aged with a strong sense of positive perception reduces the threats associated with ageing. Such individuals are likely to have better memory than the aged who have negative perceptions about ageing and its impact on their lives (Fernandez-Ballesteros, Bustillos and Huici, 2015). To most questions of my interview, Mr. X's answers were the opposite of what I had expected. His attitude brimmed with positive thoughts. He agreed that he felt lonely at times and wished his children and him could meet more often. His wife, a diabetic was similar to him and both believed in ageing with a positive mindset. Though retired, his many hobbies kept him busy and physically agile. His association with a not-for-profit associated with war veterans gave him a feeling of immense satisfaction whenever he contributed to the cause of working for friends in the army. He played golf and helped his wife maintain a beautiful garden. His ailments did not worry him much. Mr. X practised tai chi. When probed about his life, the social and family support, he said he was happy and surrounded by people who cared for him. During the time when he suffered a fracture, his children took turns to help him and he said he felt he was a lucky father. The constant support that he enjoyed and the fact that all his needs were met helped him recover and he did not feel any mental strain during the period of recovery. Mr. X dispelled the belief that I held about the aged being grumpy and insecure, particularly when ill. Aged people satisfied with their quality of life are happy and content according to a study on their living conditions and outcomes (King et al., 2012, Ashe et al., 2015). Contrary to my impression of old people that I had seen since childhood, I always had an impression that they were frail, needed to be cared for, had diminished memory and a failing eyesight. Their statures were bent, and they had a desolate look in their eyes. Mr. X had dispelled some of my beliefs. He appeared strong, looked forward to meeting people, appeared happy, calm, busy, full of energy. The reason for his happiness stemmed from the fact that he was able to help war veterans, many of whom suffered from physical disability and mental problems. I noticed that was affable and easy to talk to, almost friendly, his eyes shone with kindness and he showed interest in answering my queries. I had not expected the interview to be a pleasurable communication. Another fact that I noticed was that Mr. X appeared rather alert for his age. Did tai chi practice have a role to play? Probably yes. Practice of tai chi has been known to improve cognitive function and mental agility. It is a mind-body exercise routine that incorporates choreographed movements that improve visuospatial processing. The practice of tai chi enables the elderly to remain agile through moderately aerobic activity. The positive impact on cognitive function occurs due to special neurophysiological pathways. The meditative component of tai chi reduces stress, anxiety and depression. When the exercises are performed in a group mood enhancement occurs and coping skills of the tai chi performing receive a boost (Wang et al., 2014 ; Wayne et al., 2014). Also, the attitude of the spouse towards keeping positive frame of mind affects the psychological well-being of a person. In Mr. X's case his positive attitude towards ageing and life in general was reciprocated by his wife. Their attitudes led to adoption of health promoting behaviours so that their overall quality of life was above average for their age (Momtaz et al., 2013). Optimism and having a spouse with an optimistic outlook can improve health outcomes of aged couples (Kim, Chopik and Smith, 2014). In conclusion, the interview with Mr. X altered my opinion of what it was to be able to live a contented life as a senior citizen. While I thought that the old live a decrepit life filled with insecurities and are largely dependent, Mr. X lived a busy, purposeful life. While he was reassured about help from his children, the interesting hobbies, a well adjusted social life, an optimistic spouse helped him to live n active life. His cognitive functions were above average and this could be attributed to the tai chi practice that he seldom missed. He could bond and communicate well with young people as well as his peers. Presidential Election 2000 As generations pass, and times change, the people of the United States change as well. Despite agreeing on some issues, the four major [now just two] candidates in the upcoming 2000 presidential election hold different opinions on three major economic issues: tax reform, health care, and free trade/immigration. One of the most important issues of the 2000 presidential election is tax reform. This topic, possibly more than any other issue in the election, reflects the greatest disparity among candidates of the same party. Among the Democrats, Bill Bradley and Al Gore have contrasting ideas concerning tax reform. Perhaps the most educated candidate on this issue, Bradley is a former member of the Senate Finance Committee and one of the major contributors to the 1986 overhaul of the tax code. Bradley's position, made known in numerous debates, is that he is strongly against large tax cuts. The former senator believes that while the economy is doing well, the government should utilize tax revenues to improve schools, protect social security, and pass a national healthcare program instead of concentrating on tax reduction. Bradley recently told New York Times writer James Dao that he would veto the recently approved 792 billion dollar tax cut in "a nanosecond". The only specific tax cuts Bradley has proposed are tax breaks for health insurance payments. Concerning the budget surplus, Bradley seeks to direct most of the money to reducing child poverty as well as making health care more affordable for low-income families.1 Vice President Gore has established a position on tax reform different from that of Senator Bradley. The two candidates do share similar beliefs regarding the 792 billion dollar tax cut that Gore refers to as a "risky tax scheme." Gore has stated that, if elected president, he would implement a 200 to 300 billion dollar tax cut over the next 10 years. Gore seeks to allocate this money to reach specific goals such as expanded tax incentives, and education and retirement savings programs. Gore refers to his cut as"relatively modest," and claims his figures are more realistic than those of Republican George W. Bush. Gore however, claims that he would not hesitate to implement larger cuts in a economic slowdown but rules out tax increases in good economic times.2 Republican candidate George W. Bush presents a position on tax reform clearly different than that of either of the two democratic candidates. Much like that of the "typical Republican," Bush is calling for large tax cuts if he is elected to office. As Bush has often stated, "It's the people's money, not the governments." He has called for a 1.3 trillion dollar tax cut over the next ten years, a figure close to 4 times that of Vice President Gore. The centerpiece of Bush's tax cut is a gradual reduction in marginal tax rates, meaning everyone will be affected by his proposals. On this issue, Bush states, "if you're going to have a tax cut, everyone ought to have a tax cut."3 Offering a tax reform perspective somewhat different than that of Gore, Bradley and Bush, Republican candidate John McCain wants to implement a "flat tax," a reform that would replace the current progressive marginal rates with a single ?flat' tax. McCain claims that, in this way, the government will not be promising tax cuts from surpluses the economy might not produce in the future. In sum, McCain believes taxes should be flatter, lower, and more simple. He believes that a vast majority of Americans pay too much of their income on taxes. McCain believes his tax "pitch" is modest enough in size that it leaves funds left over from surplus tax revenues to deal with other needs of the economy. He claims this "balanced approach" is the key to tax reform in the 21st century.4 Another pivotal issue in the upcoming election is health care. Bill Bradley's health care plan calls for the replacement of Medicaid with 150 dollar vouchers per month. However, Bradley still sees problems with insufficient funding for AIDS/HIV patients. In addition to this change, Bradley feels strongly about not punishing the disabled for working. Under the current system, once disabled people begin working, they lose their federal health benefits. Animal testing is physical abuse, which in turn affects the environment. Animals don’t have the ability to communicate with humans, but that doesn’t mean they deserve having their life taken away. Most animals that have been used for testing lost their ability to see or hear. Some have even died. Not to mention the chance of extinction. Certain animals’ DNA or cell tissues are also being used; it harms the skulls and makes unsafe reproduction. Surprisingly about 75% of the testing is for things like cosmetic, drugs and personal caring products. Animals have their own rights too; they do not deserve to be abused. White Tiger

In current society many books are written based racial or social issues reflecting the past, present or future. The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga is an example that confronts social and racial issues within India, shown through the eyes of servant to wealthy, named Balram. Born in rural part of India with a deceased mother and rickshaw-pulling father, Balram is dedicated to serving others. Whether it was driving the wealthy around, grinding coal, or running behind cars to get a job, Balram’s life was constant and there was no chance of him becoming a man who had servants.He was judged on where he was from and the family he was born into just like Jim was judged in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn for the color of his skin. They both had nothing to do with what they were born with but they both try to make the best of their lives by making relationships with those of a higher class or skin tone. In comparison to The White Tiger Balram shows how he deals with struggles within g iven class in order to better himself in the modern Indian society. The common apartment buildings in Delhi thrive on the past like caste systems based on the structure of the floors within the apartment.Balram describes his job, as a servant is to drive his masters around and then when they return to the buildings clean the apartment or do anything for his masters waiting for the master to tell him to leave until the morning. When Balram is done with work he goes downstairs to the servants’ quarters in the basement, which is traditional to have in apartment buildings because all residential buildings or homes are built with quarters to house their servants. These living arrangements are a place of â€Å"rest, sleep, and wait.When our masters wanted us an electric bell began to ring throughout the quarters†¦I swept the floor, tied the mosquito net to four nails on the wall, and went to sleep. The wall was covered with cockroaches,†(108-110). While their masters li ved in beautiful, cleanly apartments, their servants sleep on the lowest part of the building full of cockroaches and dirt awaiting the bell to go to their masters. The life in the apartment building represents the Caste System, that was prominent in India but now is illegal all over India, with the poorest, lowest class in basement and then the rising castes follow.Although Balram does not highlight the floor assignments of the building resembling the Caste System; the idea of living below your master is a representation of the ancient but known system. Life as servant for Balram in India means that he can’t be considered or seen doing the same things as his masters suggesting that he is not of the social status to partake in the same activities. The idea that Balram drives his masters to the mall and then not allowed to enter the same mall as them is ridiculous.But its not just Balram who sits and waits outside for his clients but other chauffeurs cannot enter the mall too. Balram describes his desire to go into the mall but knows that the guards will never let him because of the way he is dressed. â€Å"I went to the gateway of the mall in my new white T-shirt. But there, the moment I saw the guard, I turned around- went back to the Honda City†¦Even as I was walking side the mall, I was sure someone would say, Hey! That man is a paid driver! What’s he doing in here,† (128)?Going to the mall is like entering a prestigious club with guards protecting it to make sure those who did not belong get in. This representation of the Caste System is shown by those who were not in the right class would not have the same privilege of shopping in the mall like the upper classes. Balram compares being a servant of the wealthy to a Rooster Coop, where both a servant and rooster are trapped in a controlling world of a master that is useful and beneficial to the master.â€Å"He unloads all this furniture for you, and you give him the money in cash- a fat wad of cash the size of a brick†¦A years salary, two years’ salary, in his hands, and he never takes a rupee of it,† (148). The idea of the Rooster Coop is that these servants have so many opportunities to steal the money of their masters but they do not want to disobey them. They are worried that their families will be harmed and therefore these servants are imprisoned by the rich just the chickens are by farmers. How to Win a McDonald's Scholarship SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips McDonald's charities offer many different scholarships for college-bound seniors all over the country, all with different awards and eligibility requirements. Because there's so much variability among awards, applying for a McDonald's scholarship can seem daunting. Ultimately, though, it's worth it to apply - since 1985, Ronald McDonald House Charities have given out over $65 million in scholarships. Wouldn't it be great to get a small piece of that? I'll walk you through the different types of scholarship awards that McDonald's offers, in addition to offering tips and strategies to optimize your chances of winning your own award. What Are the McDonald's Scholarships? Scholarships are awarded through chapters of Ronald McDonald's House Charities, or RMHCs. There are currently 322 RMHCs in 57 different counties and regions. A variety different scholarships are available, all with different eligibility requirements. Four particular scholarships are offered through many RMHC chapters - I'll be focusing on these awards for the rest of this article. The following scholarships are need-based awards that are given to honor students' scholastic, community, and work performance. You can only apply to one of the four scholarships listed, so focus on the scholarship that you are most eligible for. For example, if you are a minority scholarship applicant, apply to the appropriate ethnicity-based award if possible. Not all RMHCs will offer all four of the following scholarships.There may be local awards offered or sponsored through your RMHC, however- you can find out more by checking with a local McDonald’s restaurant. RHMC Scholars This scholarship is open to all students. The availability and amount of award depends on your local RHMC chapter. RHMC/HACER (Hispanic American Commitment to Educational Resources) This scholarship is open to students who have at least one parent of Hispanic heritage. Applicants must submit a personal statement about their cultural background, career goals, community commitment, and any unique personal circumstances.The availability and amount of award depends on your local RHMC chapter. There are four National RHMC/HACER scholarships available- your local RMHC doesn't need to participate for you to apply for this award. The scholarship is for undergraduate students only; recipients receive $100,000 paid out over 4 years. RMHC/African American Future Achievers This scholarship is open to students who have at least one parent of African American or Black Caribbean heritage.Applicants must submit a personal statement about their cultural background, career goals, community commitment, and any unique personal circumstances.The availability and amount of award depends on your local RHMC chapter. RMHC/ASIA (Asian Students Increasing Achievement) This scholarship is open to students who have at least one parent of Asian-Pacific heritage.Applicants must submit a personal statement about their cultural background, career goals, community commitment, and any unique personal circumstances.The availability and amount of award depends on your local RHMC chapter. Check with your local chapter to see if they offer any other scholarships you may be eligible for. How Do You Know If You're Eligible? In addition to the ethnic eligibility requirements for a few of the above scholarships, there are some blanket eligibility requirements that apply to RMHC awards.In order to qualify, you must: Be a high school senior Be under 21 Have a minimum 2.7 GPA Be eligible to attend a 2-year or 4-year college, university, or technical school with a full course of study Be a legal US resident Live in a participating RMHC's geographic area (with the exception of the National RMHC/HACER scholarships) Submit a complete application and all required documentation by the appropriate deadline. Provide verification of enrollment at an eligible school Demonstrate financial need If you meet all the above requirements, you're on the right track to submitting a successful McDonald's scholarship application. What Information Do You Need to Apply? Keep in mind that deadlines and other application requirements may vary based on your local RMHC. However, you'll most likely be asked to provide the following materials for your scholarship application: High school transcript SAT/ACT scores Resume Personal statement addressing your background, career goals, community commitment, and any unique personal circumstances or characteristics. Your statement should likely be fewer than 1000 words. Letters of recommendation - these should come from teachers or mentors who can speak to your abilities and commitment to education. The application window for the 2018-2019 academic year has already closed, but you could get a head start on the 2019-2020 applications if you're a current high school senior.The new application should open in October of 2019; the deadline will likely be in late January of 2020. Strategies: How to Increase Your Chances of Winning a McDonald's Scholarship The following tips will help you submit your strongest application for any McDonald's scholarship you choose to apply to. The more time you give yourself to implement these strategies, the more successful you'll be! Research Your Local Ronald McDonald House Charity One of the first things you should do is check on what scholarship opportunities are actually available to you through your local RMHC. Your local RMHC may participate in the scholarships described earlier; if they do, you should be able to get more information about availability, deadlines, scholarship award amounts, and applications by contacting that RMHC. Try Googlingâ€Å"[your local area/city] Ronald McDonald House Charity scholarship† for more information. You can also check on availability for the above scholarships by following the appropriate link on this page. If your local RMHC does not offer the scholarships listed above, they may offer other awards, much like the RMHC of Eastern New England that I mentioned earlier. Because all these local scholarships will have different deadlines, requirements, award amounts, etc., it’s best to research these scholarships as early as possible. Again, the best way to do this is research and/or get in contact with your local RMHC. Choose the People Writing Your Letter(s) of Recommendation Wisely Your letter writer should ideally be a teacher, coach, or mentor that you have a long-standing, positive, personal relationship with. If your letter writer doesn’t provide a strong and well-written letter vouching for your abilities and commitment to education, chances are your application won’t be given much thought. To confirm that you’re selecting the right person as your letter writer, ask them if they feel comfortable writing you a very strong or glowing recommendation. If they’re not comfortable, they should have the opportunity to decline so that you can choose someone who’s better able to vouch for you. Try to give your letter writers 10-12 weeks of advance notice before your application is due. Take Your Personal Statement Seriously You’ll have up to 1,000 words to discuss your education and career goals, as well as individual qualities and strengths. Be concise and clear, and maintain a positive tone. To brainstorm for your personal statement, think about how you would respond to the following questions: What are your academic interests? How did you develop these interests? How does your educational plan align with your academic interests and strengths? How will your educational plan help you to fulfill your long-term career goals? Do you plan on becoming a leader in your field or career? How? How will this McDonald’s scholarship money enable you to pursue your education, and by extension, your long-term goals? Becoming a Storm Chaser- Chris Caldwell Interview How can I become a storm chaser? is one of the most frequent questions I get asked. Last year, I reported on the National Weather Festival and a new event called the Storm Chaser Car Show. This year, I had the opportunity to complete an interview with one of the participants in the show. His name is Chris Caldwell and he works for KOCO TV 5 in Oklahoma as a professional storm chaser. He is a member of the F.A.S.T. Team (First Alert Storm Team) and even runs is own website Ponca City Weather. Catch his video in the KOCO TV blog about building a chase car! When I started storm chasing there werent many people chasing at that time. I had done it as a hobby and anytime a storm would be within 25 miles I would go chase it! That was back in 1991. I got me interested in chasing when an F5 tornado passed right in front of me across highway 177 just south of Ponca City as I was on my way to Tulsa. At the time, I was driving a UPS truck. I was headed to the airport with next-day-air packages and as I got south of town I could see this massive mile wide tornado coming from the west. I was trying to hurry to beat it so I didnt have to wait for it to cross the road. I didnt quite make it and instead I sat and watched it hit a mobile home and it picked up a 24 foot stock trailer that was attached to a dual-wheel pickup loaded with cattle. I never did see where it landed. The mobile home itself just disintegrated. This storm actually had just hit the area that I had grown up in but I couldnt stay to make sure everyone was okay. I continued on to Tulsa and on the way I saw numerous funnels, at least 30, and as I approached the Hallet area I came across a 2nd tornado. By then it was dark. All the way over I had to slow down and stop since we were coming across power lines down all over the place. I was able to see the tornado near the Hallet exit only from the lightning illuminating it. I got out of the vehicle and a trooper was there getting everyone under the overpass bridge. But Overpasses are NOT Considered Safe You are right. Overpasses as tornado shelters are not considered safe. Little did we know back then that that was the wrong thing to do but we all managed to live even though the tornado went right over the top of us. I got away from there and headed into Tulsa. I kept seeing ambulance after ambulance heading west and then I saw why†¦There were people searching for survivors out in a field near a housing edition on the west side of the Tulsa Metro area. I made it to the airport some 2 hours late but they held the plane and I turned around and headed back home and saw even more rescue people heading west. I had heard there was several killed in that housing plan but never did hear a final count. It was this one night of tornadoes that got me even more interested in chasing. From then on, I started going to classes put on by the National Weather Service and I started reading all the books I could find on weather. What Kinds of Classes Were Available? There is no course you go and take to become a storm chaser. Most of it is learned by going out and chasing. I now chase for KOCO TV 5 in Oklahoma City and to chase for them you have to have some experience. They dont just throw people out that say ‘I want to chase.’ In fact all of their chasers have extensive chase time before they started chasing for them. My experience lasted from 1991 until 2002 before I started chasing for them. What is Your Favorite Part of Storm Chasing? Once a storm has shot up and it classified as severe, the chase is on. This is the part that I enjoy the most. Getting yourself in position can be hectic since we have roads to follow but the tornado itself has no highways or roads it has to stay on. I always try and get to the part of the storm that allows me the best photo opportunity as well as allows me to report back on what the storm is doing and where it is heading. ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING CHARACTERITICS Electronic engineering is a branch of electrical engineering that deals with the implementation of applications, principles and algorithms by using non linear and active electrical components such as transistors, diodes and integrated circuits to produce electronic machines, televisions etc which is more related to other field, for example radio engineering, telecommunication, control system and many other [1, 2].The transistors are the best electronic components that has become more useful after they had been inverted and transistors have different function because of their size. They have different physical characteristics. 2.1. Design and application of transistors in circuits Transistors may have N-P-N or P-N-P structure which function as a switch both N-P-N transistors and P-N-P transistors consists of three regions: collector, base and emitter. The base is the transistors main lead, without it, the transistor wont function, the collector is the positive lead and the emitter is the negative lead. Therefore the N-P-N and other transistors are may be used to control the flow of electrical current, power flow through the transistors from the power supply to the relay controlling the flow of electricity. Sometimes NPN transistors may usually work as amplifiers by controlling large amount of current [3]. Figure is on the appendix. 2.2. Electronic components There are many electronics that are widely used in electronic engineering to invert special electrical appliances. Symbols of some electronic components are represented on the appendix. 3. BACKGROUND OF ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING 3.1. The past of electronics Electronic engineering has evolve from technological improvements in the telegraph industry long time ago in the late 19th century , Transistor is a well-known electronic component that is inverted in 1948 at the Bell Telephone Laboratories followed by integrated circuits in 1960, electronics is often considerable to have started when Lee De Forest inverted the first vacuum tube in 1907 within 10 years, all of his electronic device was found in radio, transmission and receivers as well as system for long distances telephone cells [1, 2],electronic engineering was interesting because many things that are inverted during the 19th century are now improved to produce better materials that are very useful. Electronics play a significant role when it comes to telecommunications because the beginning of electronics is more likely based on communication and it is also improving because after the invention of radio, telegraphy and other past electronics appliances the first purely electronic television is inverted in 1928 by Philo Farnsworth [2], therefore this trend shows accurately that electronics always strive to progress from generation to another. During 1930s television had become more popular because it was recognized by millions of people to the best thing that was transferring information easily. During the past the computers that was inverted they were not programmed like the one that are being used now because they were very big and it hard to find because they only found at the laboratory of High institution and these computers was using big transistors that was storing less resources, therefore the most benefit from early computers is that they were better in terms of information transmission when compared to televisions. During the First World War electronic applications had tried to play a vital role by creating electronic weapons for defence but the most successful electronics weapons are the one that was produced when Second World War take place[5]. Hence electronics had created a wonderful social awareness by providing people with strong electronic weapons to protect their life against their enemies. 3.2. The present of electronics Electronic engineering nowadays is a challenging field because there is a lot of competency for producing desirable electrical appliances which benefit the whole world. Electronic engineering is the best because many things that are being used all over the world to create peace, economic growth, excitement and employments are produced by electronic engineers. Information technology today is based on electronics because information is transferred from one place to another by using electronic materials such as cell phones, digital computers, advanced television such as plasma and other useful electrical appliances, therefore all of this benefit the country because it maintain peoples rights. Electronics is more useful for health services and educational purpose because today at universities they are using computers, power point during the lecture time and this help students to adapt, gain knowledge and skills in the electronic and technological environment. People all over the world ar e getting proper health care because there is variety of electronic applications on medicine e.g. X-rays, Ultrasound detectors, medical research and expands other diagnostic test which save human lives. Since the invention of radio television in the past other previous century the electronics industry has been increasing drastically with the beginning of computer technologies and cell phones the electronics industry is regarded as the world largest and fastest growing manufacturing industry. Therefore this flowing of electronics it release hazardous material that affect the environment because when electric product become cheaper they tend to rapidly become more useless and some of these materials are dumped everywhere which lead to pollution [6]. 4. Technology is also faced with a huge change because electronic engineers are always trying to improve their skills. Northerly and north-easterly flows prevail over the eastern half of China. As a typical feature, the Mongolian High is only a rather shallow pressure system. It disappears at the 500-hPa level. West China which has a higher elevation, therefore feels little of its influence; Yunnan highlands are even predominated by south-westerlies during most of the winter.
